Web 2.0 is basically more user friendly, easier to use, and allows users to post absolutely anything they want. Which can be bad or good. This relates to the movie Catfish, because a women name Angela posed as 15 or more different Facebook profiles. She created a whole second life for herself, and actually posed as all these people with different personalities and lifestyles. This is a pure example of why the internet and social networking sites can become dangerous. Nev believed this woman Angela was the mother of two girls Abby and Megan. Abby was a fantastic painter and duplicated Nev's photographs into paintings. Megan was a beautiful girl who which Nev was attracted to and started a relationship with over Facebook, calls and text messages. He knew nothing else about this family other then what he saw on Facebook. Web 2.0 helped people adapt to using the internet in a more advanced way. Little did they know what can be revealed when learning how to use the advanced technology of the World Wide Web. Web 2.0 made it easy for people to hid behind a computer screen, and post absolutely anything from arguing with someone and not confronting them face to face, to giving users the ability to create a second life and reveal untruthful facts and issues about their lives.
Facebook and other social networking sites can obviously be abused by the user. These social networking sites allows users to portray themselves as someone completely different then who they really are. Sites like this make it easy for people to lead a double life, and create a new life for themselves if they are unhappy with who they really are. Which I believe is how Angela felt, she felt unhappy with her own life so she created multiple lives so she can experience what is would be like to be a beautiful young girl like Megan. Also to have a good looking guy become to interested and committed and she never had to meet him, because their relationship was all through advanced technological communication. As creepy and unreal as this sounds, this is what Angela did.
Facebook can be beneficial and abused at the same time. Facebook can be used to keep in touch with long lost friends and to meet knew people in a GOOD way. When the user becomes to involved things can get risky. A social networking site like this is really not monitored and gives access to everyone in the world to create a profile and post pictures, videos and text about themselves. What is scary is people can pose as some different just like Angela did. Nev believed everything Angela told him, she was posing as Megan a young girl, all of Megan's friends, and lying about her daughter Abby being a wonderful painter. What it looks like to me is Angela wanted to be all these things, a painter, a beautiful young girl and Facebook allowed her to portray herself as these these things and to engage in this double life of hers that she created. At one point of the movie it seemed to me as it was hard for her to define what was real and what was fake. Its as if she confused her real life with her fake life. When Nev approached her about this second life she was pretending to lead, she continued to lie about some things. How Megan went to rehab for drinking, and how the pictures of "Megan" on Facebook was really a family friend. Non of this was true, its as if she couldn't identify what was real and what was fake, its like lying became a part of her every day life and she didn't know how to live her life without lying.
Throughout the years technology has grown, and more advanced technology is coming about and it is becoming easier and easier for the user to communicate with the outside world. Emails, chatting, searching the web, posting on Facebook, making blog entries, can all be done in the palm of your hand on your cellphone. When the World Wide Web first came out I remember having to wait about 5 mins for the internet to dial up because it was connected to a phone line. Now it takes seconds to log onto the Internet and everything is completely wireless no more sitting in front of a desk waiting a few mins to log on the internet to check an email. Technology has evolved into something that can be easily abused, technology is a wonderful thing and many people now would never survive without it, but in many ways can effect society and the way of life in a negative way.
